Ask three salons how long brow lamination lasts and you'll probably get three answers: four weeks, six weeks, eight weeks. They're not all wrong. Brow lamination fades on more than one timeline at once, and your hair type and first-day aftercare decide where you land.
I've spent more than 20 years doing lashes and brows, and I see what happens to laminated brows in the weeks after clients leave my St Ives studio. Below is the honest number, what your brows look like week by week, and exactly what to avoid, and for how long.
Key takeaways
- Brow lamination usually lasts about 4 to 6 weeks, and can hold closer to 8 weeks on coarse, healthy brows.
- The tint, the lift and your natural hair growth each fade on their own timeline, which is why numbers online vary.
- Keeping your brows completely dry for the first 24 hours is the single biggest thing you can do to make lamination last.
- Most people rebook brow lamination every 6 to 8 weeks; laminating sooner can leave brow hairs dry and brittle.
How Long Does Brow Lamination Last? The Short Answer
The short answer is that brow lamination lasts about 4 to 6 weeks, and up to 8 weeks on coarse, healthy brows with good aftercare. Fine hair and oily skin usually sit at the shorter end.
You'll find other sites quoting 6 to 8 weeks, and some quoting "up to 8". Those numbers aren't made up; they describe the best case. The next section explains why your eyebrow lamination might last four weeks while your friend's lasts seven.
Why Brow Lamination Lasts Longer for Some People: The Three Clocks
Here's what most people don't realise: brow lamination has three timelines, not one. The tint fades first, the lift relaxes next, and new hair growth finishes the job.
Clock 1: the tint. If you add a tint, the dye stains the skin underneath for a few days, which makes brows look extra full straight after your appointment. The colour on the hairs themselves lasts longer, but it lightens each time you wash your face. That's why many clients notice their brows look softer within the first couple of weeks, even though the shape is still there.
Clock 2: the lift. The lifting solution softens the bonds inside each brow hair, and the setting solution fixes them in their new, brushed-up direction. Over the following weeks, washing, skincare and daily brushing slowly relax that set, and the hairs start lying flatter.
Clock 3: your hair growth. Brow hairs shed and regrow all the time. Every laminated hair that falls out is replaced by a new one that was never laminated, so the effect thins out a few hairs at a time.
On top of the three clocks, a few things decide which end of the range you land at:
- Hair texture: coarse, thick brow hair holds longer; very fine or soft hair fades sooner.
- Skin: normal or dry skin holds longer; oily skin fades sooner.
- Skincare: a gentle cleanser around the brows helps it last; retinol, AHAs or BHAs on the brow area shorten it.
- The first 24 hours: brows kept completely dry hold longer; water, steam or sweat on day one makes them fade sooner.
- Daily habits: brushing up gently each morning helps; rubbing or heavy makeup removal shortens it.
So if your lamination dropped at week four, it doesn't automatically mean something went wrong. Your brows may simply sit at the shorter end of the range.
What Your Laminated Brows Look Like Week by Week
Laminated brows look their most dramatic on day one and their most natural from about day three. Here's what to expect across a typical cycle:
- Day 1: very lifted, a little stiff, and darker if you added a tint. Keep them dry.
- Days 2 to 7: the hairs soften into a fluffy, brushed-up shape, and tint on the skin fades.
- Brow lamination after 1 week: the look most people want, full, feathery and easy to brush into place.
- Weeks 2 to 4: your best stage. The shape holds with a quick brush each morning.
- Weeks 4 to 6: hairs start lying flatter, and new hairs grow in at their natural angle.
- Week 6 onward: brows are close to their usual shape. Time to rebook if you loved it.
Do laminated brows stay in place? They hold their new direction, but they aren't glued. Most of my clients still brush them up each morning with a spoolie, and some add a little clear gel for a sharper finish. The difference is it takes seconds instead of minutes.
Brow Lamination Aftercare: What to Do and When
In summary, keep your brows completely dry for the first 24 hours, then brush them into shape every morning and condition them with a drop of oil at night. That's most of brow lamination aftercare. The details below cover the questions I get asked most.
The first 24 hours
The first day is when the new shape settles, so this is where most early drops start.
- Keep your brows dry: no face washing over them, no steam and no sweat.
- Leave them product-free: no makeup, gel, serum or moisturiser on the brows.
- Don't touch, rub or brush them.
- Try to sleep on your back so your brows aren't pressed into the pillow.
How long after brow lamination can you shower? Wait 24 hours if you can. If you have to shower sooner, keep your face out of the water and the steam, and wash your face with a damp cloth that avoids the brow area.
Days 2 to 7
- Brush your brows up each morning with a clean spoolie.
- Makeup is fine again. Remove it gently, without oily remover on the brows.
- Keep retinol, exfoliating acids and facials away from the brow area for the first week, as they can relax the hairs faster.
Eyebrow lamination aftercare oils and serums
Lamination can leave brow hairs a little dry, and conditioning them keeps them soft and less likely to frizz or break. From day two, brush a drop of castor oil or a brow conditioning serum through your brows at night.
If you've seen people recommend Vaseline, a thin film of plain petroleum jelly does a similar conditioning job. Just keep everything off your brows for the first 24 hours.
What to avoid after brow lamination (and for how long)
- Get my brows wet? After 24 hours.
- Shower? After 24 hours, or keep your face out of the water.
- Work out or sweat? After 24 hours.
- Swim, or use a sauna or steam room? After 48 hours, to be safe.
- Wear makeup? From day 2, and not on the brows on day 1.
- Use brow gel or pencil? From day 2.
- Use retinol or acids near the brows? After 1 week.
- Get a facial? After 1 week.
- Tint my brows? Add a tint at your lamination appointment, or wait for my advice before tinting at home.
Why Did My Brow Lamination Drop Early?
Most early drops come from something in the first 24 hours, but not all of them. These are the usual causes:
- Water, steam or sweat on day one, before the shape had settled
- Oily skin, which softens the set faster
- Retinol, acids or a facial in the first week
- Very fine or naturally resistant brow hair
- Rubbing the brows, or heavy makeup removal every night
Sometimes it's none of these, and your brows simply relax sooner than most. That's useful to know, because it tells us what to adjust next time.
If yours dropped early, text me a photo on 0401 797 455 and I'll tell you what most likely happened.
How Often Can You Get Brow Lamination?
Most people rebook brow lamination every 6 to 8 weeks. Laminating sooner, while the last treatment is still in your brows, processes the same hairs twice and can leave them dry and brittle.
If the tint fades before the shape does, a tint on its own between laminations keeps the colour up without re-processing the hairs.
What Brow Lamination Costs at Jay Lash and Brow
Brow lamination at my St Ives studio is $145, as of October 2026. You can add a brow tint for $30 and a brow shape for $30 in the same appointment, which takes about 45 minutes.
See prices and booking on my brow lamination in St Ives page, or text or call me on 0401 797 455.
If your brows are genuinely bare in places, lamination can only lift the hair you have. A brow tattoo is the longer-lasting option for filling gaps.
Brow Lamination FAQs

Brow lamination usually lasts about 4 to 6 weeks, and up to 8 weeks on coarse, healthy brows with good aftercare. Fine hair and oily skin sit at the shorter end.
Can I get my brows wet after lamination?
Not for the first 24 hours. Water and steam can relax the hairs before the new shape has settled. After that, wash as normal and pat your brows dry.
How long after brow lamination can I shower?
Wait 24 hours if you can. If you have to shower sooner, keep your face out of the water and the steam.
Can I wear makeup after brow lamination?
Keep makeup off your brows for the first 24 hours. From day two you can use brow gel, pencil or powder, removed gently without oily cleanser on the brows.
Can I work out after brow lamination?

The tint usually fades before the lift. It stains the skin for a few days and stays on the hairs for a few weeks, depending on washing and skincare.

How long does brow lamination take?
